Fall 2011
Dear Campus Colleagues:
This fall, The University of Montana hopes to set another record for the amount of money given during the annual Charitable Giving Campaign. Last year, our generous UM community gave more than $131,000 to help charitable organizations in the Missoula area. For 2011-12, we hope to raise $135,000 for the first time in the Campaign’s history. In addition, we hope to inspire 1,000 donors—approximately half of UM’s employees—to give.
The organizations participating in this year’s Campaign, listed inside this brochure, serve a broad range of interests and needs within our community. The money you contribute does not go to the University but to community agencies that serve those in need. I have no doubt that you will find the right giving opportunity for you among the participating organizations.
This year, all UM employees can make contributions to the Charitable Giving Campaign through a secure online website at https://www.ipledgeonline.org/_um/. I hope that you will give generously to the organization(s) of your choice. Even the smallest amount can make a difference. For example, you might consider giving $1 per pay period to buy one family a three-day supply of nonperishable food and a box of fresh vegetables. It matters less how much we give than that we give.
Please join me and help to make a difference for people in need.
Sincerely,

Royce C. Engstrom
President

Q: What is the Charitable Giving Campaign at UM?
A: It’s an opportunity for UM employees to give back to the community by donating to local nonprofit charities.
Q: How do I contribute?
A: This year UM is using an online donation system called iPledge to reduce paper waste and provide more contribution options for participants. To make an online contribution, visit https://www.ipledgeonline.org/_um. Online donors can donate by payroll contribution or credit card.
Q: How do I set up an account using the new online system?
A: Setting up an account using the online donation system is easy. Log on to https://www.ipledgeonline.org/_um. The first time you visit, you will be asked to register. Step 1: Select your office or department from the list provided. Step 2: Enter your full name and email, then select a user name and password. Once your account is created, you will reach the “Make a Pledge” page. Step 3: Enter your employee ID number (your 790 number), then select your pledge type and the agencies you would like to donate to. Step 4: Once you have entered your donation amounts, click “Enter Pledge” at the bottom of the page. You’re done!
Q: What if I need help using the online system?
A: There will be two computer lab sessions available for those who would like assistance using the online system. Lab sessions will held in Liberal Arts Building Room 139 from noon to 1 p.m., Friday, Oct. 14, and from 4 to 5 p.m., Friday, Nov. 4.
Q: What if I want to donate using the paper form?
A: A limited number of paper pledge forms will be printed for those without computer access or who prefer the paper method. To obtain a paper pledge form, contact University Relations at 243-2522. Paper forms must be returned to University Relations, Brantly Hall Room 317, by Friday, Nov. 18.
Q: Is there a fee for making an online contribution using a credit card?
A: Contributions made via credit card are subject to a fee of approximately 3 percent that will be subtracted from the amount the nonprofit agency receives. There is no fee for payroll contributions.
Q: When does the Charitable Giving Campaign take place?
A: The 2011-12 Charitable Giving Campaign at UM kicks off Wednesday, Oct. 12, 2011. The campaign will close Friday, Nov. 18. All employees who wish to participate in the campaign are asked to submit their contributions by that date. If you opt for payroll deductions, those will take place during the 2012 calendar year.
Q: What if I have additional questions or need to request a disability-related accommodation?
A: Call James McKusick, 2011-12 campaign chair, at 243-2541 or email james.mckusick@umontana.edu.
