UMSL Student Ambassador Program

Law Student Ambassadors are current law students who work primarily with the Office of Admissions in representing the University of Montana Law School in a myriad of ways. UMSL Ambassadors promote and personalize the law school to prospective students and their families, visiting attorneys, and the community. A position as an ambassador provides students with a volunteer opportunity to get to know members of many constituencies of the Law School.

Services of a Student Ambassador:
            Law School tours to prospective students and other visitors;
            Phone calls to admitted applicants;
            Email communication with admitted and interested applicants;
            Assistance during the Introductory Program; and
            A positive student presence at special events.

Qualities of a Student Ambassador:
            Pride in the University of Montana School of Law;
            Knowledge of the law school’s curriculum and physical plant;
            Knowledge of general statistical information about the law school;
            A desire to work with guests of the law school;
            Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; and
            A professional demeanor.

Prospective students appreciate the opportunity to tour the law school, discuss the law school experience with current students and attend classes before accepting an offer of admission. Therefore, the busiest time of year for Student Ambassadors is Spring Semester when the Admissions Committee begins making offers of acceptance. Student Ambassadors must be able to commit to 2-3 tours a month during March, April, and May. The administration will also expect student ambassador presence and assistance at events occurring throughout the school year, including such events as the Board of Visitors reception, guest speaker engagements, and the annual appreciation luncheon for community volunteers.

Student Ambassadors become experts on the University of Montana School of Law; develop lasting relationships; hone communication and interpersonal skills; and begin networking with students, families, attorneys and community members. Student Ambassadors will receive school recognition and minor perks as they volunteer their time throughout the year.

If you are interested in becoming a UMSL Student Ambassador, please fill out the application form and email it to the Director of Admissions, at lori.freeman@umontana.edu or drop it off in room 181. Applications are due September 12. Students will serve for one year but are welcome to reapply for consecutive years.
