Purpose
The Fund provides scholarships for UM Law students who are interested in pursuing a career in public interest law including the following:,Non Profit Organizations · Legal Aid · Low and middle income clients · Public Defenders · Government · Social Justice · Service to underrepresented clients. Scholarship recipients must have financial need as determined by the Office of Financial Aid analysis. Applications will be evaluated by the Dean of the Law School, the Director of the People’s Law Center, and a third person to be named by the Law School Dean.
Guiding Principle
The majority of Neil Haight’s career centered around public service. With nine years in general practice, he served four years as Assistant District Attorney in New Mexico and two years as Montana's Fergus County Attorney. Neil proceeded to devote 33 years of his career to Montana Legal Services. Mr. Haight was guided by the principle that everyone is entitled to legal representation. He believed most cases can and should be settled without going to court. |
