Outreach Opportunities
In the past we have officially had 2 panels, Guess the Straight and Q and A. This year, we have combined the two and modified them to create our U Support panel!
U Support panels consist of 3-6 people, and we encourage anyone hosting a panel to invite people they know to be panelists as well. The format of our panels is as follows:
- Panelists and moderator are introduced.
- The audience and moderator ask questions of the panelists, in hopes of guessing their sexual orientation/identity.
- The audience votes and the panelists reveal their orientations/identities.
- Panelists, who wish to, will then share some experiences with the group: coming out stories, instances in which allies within or outside of the LGBTI community changed your life, when you first realized your orientation/identity, etc.
- Stories can be shared by any or all panelist—gay, straight, or otherwise. The main purposes of this panel are to breakdown stereotypes and give people ways to be an ally.
- In closing, the moderator will explain to the class ways to be an LGBTI ally, and make our University a safe, accepting place for everyone.
**This panel can be modified to be a little longer or shorter, and we might skip or rush through things when we need to—this is just the outline of what our regular panels will look like.
